Tom Virgin: Open Book
Feb. 7 to March 13, 2015
Opening Reception: Friday, Feb. 6
Raffle Event: Friday, March 13
Miami-based artist Tom Virgin creates prints, book arts, installations, and public art. His community-centric work has examined national parks, artist’s residencies, students/teachers, and the shared space where various disciplines overlap to build collaborative group projects. Open Book, an installation created for the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, will expand on a number of his recent artist’s books that look at public schools. Turned inside out, blown up, and spread across a number of walls in a stairwell, the books tell a story with metaphor, mixed media, images, text, and ephemera.
Virgin’s recent collaborative projects with writers and visual artists have included the SWEAT Broadsheet Collaboration I and II, WAIL at MDC Museum of Art + Design in Miami, and Heartland with Robert Hedin, Director of the Anderson Center at Tower View in Red Wing, Minnesota. Tom Virgin is the Proprietor of Extra Virgin Press which published its first fine press edition, Collaboration Too, in 2014.
