Life is a series of recurring events for South Florida-based artist Melissa Fredendall. Temporal Flux is a direct reflection upon her personal experiences with déjà vu, in which the artist synthesizes diverse research in memory and reality. The result is her quest to recreate and understand this enigmatic phenomenon. Fredendall obsessively tests each theory related to this fleeting, uncanny feeling of familiarity, utilizing herself as the constant variable in each experiment. The exploration of the unconscious, social interactions and human senses through various mediums evidently blur the lines between time and space. This interdisciplinary artist creates hybrid art from contemporary research in neuroscience, employing video and site-specific installation to transcend the boundaries between art and science.
