Restrepo strives to capture vivid experiences within his paintings. Each brushstroke and colored pencil line weaves a personal narrative, blending elements of multiple stories into a cohesive hybrid and unified tale.  His work is centered on scenes of domesticity, familiar objects, and their relationship to day-to-day routines.  The decisive use of color, composition, and placement of shapes and lines on the canvas is a distinctive narrative motif that Restrepo conveys in his artistic practice.

No Further Expectations Beyond This Night

Juan Sebastian Restrepo work delves into the intricate relationships within social categorizations through figurative painting and drawing. Currently based in Florida, he received his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting from Pratt Institute.

Sebastian's art explores how social categorizations create interconnected systems of difference, judgment, and understanding. His exhibitions include intersections at the New World Gallery, New World School of the Arts in 2023, Hybridity at the Edwardsville Arts Center in Edwardsville, IL in 2018, and Empty Walls at the Coral Springs Museum of Art in 2024.

His work has also been recognized in journals such as Quibble Lit: Issue 12, Red Cedar Review: Issue 59.1, Salmon Creek Journal: Growing Pains, and many others.  In addition Restrepo teaches as a Faculty Adjunct at Florida International University and Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, further enriching his engagement with the artistic and educational communities in Florida.
