Oolite Arts Collaborations

The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood presents Smoke/Screen, a solo exhibition by Miami-based artist Nick Mahshie. The exhibition is in partnership with Oolite Arts.

Nick Mahshie’s practice shifts freely between art and design, making references to the visual language of a saturated Miami culture while challenging the seductive palette of both our landscape and our sartorial inclinations. Mahshie uses vibrant layers of color patterns culled from repurposed fashion and his unique custom-designed prints created on cotton and fiberglass mesh. For this exhibition, Mahshie has created an interactive space with hanging prints and designs. Visitors are invited to wear custom garments made by the artist to interact and blend into the setting. The experience effectively camouflages the participant, creating a longer pause and deeper connection to the lushly manufactured environment.

This exhibition in Gallery 2 at the Center is the third of our Oolite Collaborations series with Oolite Arts based in Miami Beach. The exhibition brochure includes a text written by Jason Katz.
