HONOREES
JOY SATTERLEE
MAX CHIRA
&
Joy Satterlee has been a part of the Art and Culture Center for over 21 years, beginning as the Deputy Director in 2002. Later, she took on the role of Interim Director and became the Executive Director in 2005, recently retiring in December 2023. Her name is synonymous with her spirit and is valued by all for being an unwavering advocate for the South Florida arts community. She served as an Advisor, Trustee, or Member for several organizations, including the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, Girls’ Club Gallery Fort Lauderdale, Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Broward Women’s Alliance, Florida Association of Museums, Funding Arts Broward, and Citizens Interested in Arts. The Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce fittingly presented her with the 2017 Community Leadership Award. Above all, Joy is a true friend, colleague, and community partner that anyone is lucky to call their own. Her passion for the cultural arts, love of adventurous travel, and wanderlust soul set her apart. She is the person you want to have a glass of wine with, share a good meal, enjoy a performance or experience and trade entertaining stories. Joy’s impact on the South Florida arts and culture landscape will be lasting. She is precious to many for all that she embodies.
Max Chira moved to the City of Hollywood when he was only two years old. His family established Chira’s Department Store in 1941, which operated for 46 years. He is grateful for the opportunities awarded to his family during the infancy of the City. Max has an entrepreneurial spirit and later expanded into interests in real estate, banking, investments, and mortgages, where he found great success. He believes in giving back and is a benefactor for the new campus planned for Chabad of NE Hollywood. Max has committed to supporting the new playground in Arts Park at Young Circle in honor of his beloved parents and will be recognized as a legacy catalyst for the Center’s new Arts Education Wing, helping to equip and activate the expanded programming in the $7M facility that is expected to open in March 2025. He and Joy collaborated for two years to design a strategy that will benefit the South Florida community for decades to come. Max’s dedication to his beloved family, love for the City of Hollywood, and commitment to providing opportunities for young people is an honorable legacy.
Special Performance by Michael Dean as CHER in honor of his affection for Joy Satterlee and her
21 years of service to the South Florida
arts community.
