The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood celebrated its 25th Annual Cuisine for Art fundraiser presented by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and supported by the Windhover Foundation. The annual event took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood on Thursday, May 25. The event netted over $106,000 for the Center’s arts programs.
This year’s honoree was Board of Trustees Secretary Misty Weinger of Kofsky Weinger, PA. Over 400 guests attended this year’s soiree and enjoyed a cocktail reception, followed by a three-course dinner and live entertainment.
Cuisine for Art featured 23 elected officials and community leaders serving as Celebrity Waiters during an exciting and entertaining evening. Guests enjoyed complimentary wine, beer, vodka and rum cocktails, a three-course dinner, and live entertainment by Ilan Tarrab and Divas Through the Decades. This year’s fundraiser also included a guest appearance by best-selling author and 2019 Cuisine for Art Honoree Dave Barry.
“We’re exceptionally proud that our 25th Annual Cuisine for Art Fundraiser was the largest and most successful fundraiser to date. We are thankful of all our generous sponsors, donors, Celebrity Waiters, and guests,” said Joy Satterlee, Executive Director of the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. “This engaging night happened due to so many organizations and individuals support as well as the dedication to the Center from our staff, volunteers, and our amazing chairs, Susan Renneisen, Jules Meyer and Anna Smith.”

GUEST SPEAKER
DAVE BARRY - 19th Annual Cuisine for Art Honoree
Dave Barry, the Center’s Cuisine for Art 2019 honoree, is an award-winning author and humor columnist. For many years, he wrote a syndicated newspaper column that appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the US and abroad. In 1988, Barry won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary while at The Miami Herald. One of Barry’s columns was largely responsible for the movement to observe “International Talk Like A Pirate Day” every year on September 19. He also was awarded the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism (2005).
Barry has written more than 30 books, with his most recent novel published by Simon and Schuster, Swamp Story.
"Before you open this book, ask yourself one important question: How hard do I want to laugh? Because (a) it’s Dave Barry, and (b) it’s Dave Freaking Barry. Of course, Swamp Story is about greed, fraud, and viral fame, but there are also big-ass reptiles to keep the sketchiest characters on their toes. Everything that happens in this wild novel could easily happen in South Florida, and probably will. Read it here first. Dave’s version is always the funniest." — Carl Hiaasen
Barry’s other books, include “Lessons From Lucy: The Simple Joys of an Old, Happy Dog.” Two of Barry’s books were the basis for the CBS sitcom Dave’s World, which aired from 1993 to 1997. Along with Ridley Pearson, Barry wrote the bestselling Starcatchers series of young-adult novels, one of which was adapted as the Tony-award winning Broadway play Peter and the Starcatcher.
Barry lives in Miami (he really likes it the despite what people say) with his family and their dog.
