Richard Sauer attended art school at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the 1960s, but is currently based in South Florida. During his time in Wisconsin, he was influenced by an abstract painting by Stuart Davis in the Milwaukee Art Museum. When in Massachusetts in the summer of 1976, he did a full-page watercolor of 64 rectangles, each filled with a Davis detail. Now in South Florida, in the acrylic “Stuart Davis Tribute: Jazz Quartet #4”, he has included four details from the watercolor. Adapting to the changing art scene due to the development of the internet, he is creating a source of 10,000 images worldwide on his website.
