Javier Barrera’s creative process is a philosophical search, shaped by matters of practice and procedure that extend through video, audio, and printmaking. Ideas are guided by aesthetics and grounded in a definite social context that relates to contemporary culture. He received his BA in Philosophy at Boston University and his MFA in Media Art at CUNY—Hunter College. Barrera’s work can be found in the collections of the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, Fidelity Collections, and other private collections. Past exhibitions include the International Print Center (New York, NY); Contemporary Arts Center (New Orleans, LA), and El Museo del Barrio (New York, NY). He has been fortunate to have three consecutive shows in the past 12 months at the Art and Culture Center in Hollywood, Florida. He works in Miami, Florida.
