By using ballet to express contemporary issues, Urban Ballet Theater’s Artistic Director Daniel Catanach has made this classical art form accessible to a vast range of audiences. His New York-based company is well known for combining inner-city influences with a mix of classical and contemporary dance styles to illustrate life’s highs and lows. As a result, Catanach’s dancers not only entertain, but also present images that are accessible and relevant to today’s audiences. The company’s dancers are seasoned, classically trained performers, who were introduced to the art form in non-traditional ways, usually through Catanach’s inner-city artistic programs.
“[Artistic Director Daniel] Catanach’s choreography, fluent to the point of ranginess, swirls all over the map. His dancers…hold nothing back.” – Dance Magazine
