Pet Lovers Photo Contest and we "heart" pets Exhibition

In conjunction with The Tillamook Cheddar Mid-Career Retrospective, all visitors are invited to participate in the Art and Culture Center’s Pet Lovers Photo Contest and we pets Exhibition.

Pet Lovers Photo Contest

Enter this photography competition and a chance to win prizes. Exhibition runs July 22-26, 2009 in the upstairs gallery of the Center.

Grand Prize: One photo will be chosen by a panel of judges as “Best in Show” and will receive a family and/or pet portrait photo session with Hitz Photography valued at $500.

First-place prizes will be awarded in three age groups — 11-and-under, 12-17, and 18-and-up — for the following categories:

  • Cutest
  • Funniest
  • Most Artistic or Original

The 10 winners will be announced Sunday, July 26 at 1 pm at the Center. The decisions of the contest judges are final.

Pet Lovers Photo Contest Rules

  • Entries will be accepted through Monday, July 20 during gallery hours: 10 am-5 pm Monday-Saturday and noon-4 pm Sunday
  • Entry fee is $10 and includes two complimentary gallery passes (a $14 value)
  • Use any camera to photograph your pet or a pet you know, then bring the photograph to the Center for display and judging
  • Photo must be original and printed. Photo as digital files on CD, DVD or email are NOT ACCEPTED
  • Only one photo per person
  • Photo may not exceed 8 × 10 inches
  • Photo should be delivered to the Center ready to hang, preferably framed or matted. Unframed photos will be hung with clips and may receive indentation marks as a result
  • Photo must be accompanied by a completed official registration form
  • The first 100 entries will be accepted
  • Deadline for submission is 4 pm on July 20

General Rules
The Pet Lovers Photo Contest is open to all Florida residents. By entering the contest, participants agree to release the contest sponsors of all liability that could result from participating in the contest, attending the event, or the awarding of the contest prizes.

By submitting an entry into this contest, entrants and their parents/guardians grant permission to the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood and sponsors to use any photographs of the entrant for any promotional use.

The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood or any sponsor or agents are not responsible for any lost, late, damaged, destroyed, illegible or incomplete entries. By submitting an entry form and piece into this contest, entrants and their parents/guardians agree to these official rules and regulations and the decisions of the judges. The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood reserves the right to refuse any photo it considers offensive or inappropriate.

All photographs should be picked up following the exhibition – July 27 through August 31, 2009. Works not picked up will become the property of the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.

Employees of the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood and their immediate family are ineligible.

we pets

Opening reception for we pets is Friday, June 19, 6-9 pm

Artists and the general public are invited to exhibit their own photographs, paintings, sculptures, drawings, computer-generated images, poems, stories, digital videos, etc. of their pets or pets they know from June 19 to August 16, 2009 as part of our we pets exhibition.

Key dates
The opening reception for we pets is Friday, June 19, 6-9 pm. To be included in the opening, works must be delivered to the Curator of Exhibitions before Wednesday, June 10. The Center will continue to accept work for the show until August 10. Drop-off times are 10 am- 4 pm Monday-Saturday and noon-3 pm Sunday.

Each participant will receive one guest pass for free admission to the gallery when they drop off their piece.

General Rules
All original artistic creations of pets will be placed in the exhibit by the Center’s Curator.

The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood retains the right to refuse any work that it considers inappropriate or offensive.

Physical requirements: Only original works of art and writing are eligible. No artwork measuring more than 3 feet in any one direction or weighing more than 25 pounds can be accepted without prior written permission from the Curator. Artwork should be ready to install and be properly identified with the provided identification label securely attached. Digital video works will be accepted and will be shown on a rotation basis on AV equipment provided by the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, unless arrangements are made otherwise in advance with the Curator.

Delivery of Original Works: Participants are responsible for all shipping arrangements and expenses. Round-trip shipping expenses must be pre-paid. Pieces sent C.O.D. will not be accepted. Please allow two weeks for shipment.
All packing material must be sufficient for safe return. Do not use glass on artwork to be shipped.

Pick-up times: Works exhibited in we ? pets must be picked up from 10 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday, Aug. 17 – 31. The Curator will not be available to release works on Aug. 22-23 or Aug. 29-30.

Artwork will not be released to any person other than the participant without written authorization from the participant to the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. No work that has been included in the exhibition will be permitted to be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition.

Unless prior written permission is granted, artwork not picked up by 5 pm on Aug. 31, 2009, will become the property of the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood unless special arrangements have been made.

Photography of Work: By submitting pieces to this exhibition, participants grant the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood permission to reproduce their artwork for publicity and educational purposes.

Waiver of Liability: Participants acknowledge that they have copyright permission and model releases for all artwork submitted. The Art and Culture Center reserves the right to have final approval of all text and titles referring to exhibited artwork.

Participants also agree to hold harmless City of Hollywood and the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, its officers, employees, agents, and any other persons acting on the Center’s behalf from and against any and all liability, damages, expenses and judgments by reason of any injury or claim of injury to person or property arising directly or indirectly out of the use or occupation of the facility.

Insurance: While caution will be exercised in the handling of all accepted artwork, the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood cannot assume liability for any loss or damage caused by shipping or hand-delivery of artwork. It is the responsibility of the participants to provide adequate insurance coverage during shipment. The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood will insure artwork only while exhibited or stored on the Center’s premises.

Sales: The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood does participate in the sale of artwork, with prior written authorization of the participants. Sales of work included in the show are at the discretion of the participants. In the event that participant does agree to make work available for sale during the exhibition, a donation to the Center of 20% of net selling price is suggested, but not mandatory. Participants will be notified immediately of any sales inquiries.
