Lecture and Demonstration by the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble
Thursday, March 6, 2008; 6:30 pm, FREE
Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center
Join the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble for a lecture on the history of Odissi dance from its origin to present-day, including work done specifically by Nrityagram. The lecture will be followed by a demonstration on the language of Odissi dance – as used in pure and expressive dance. Audiences will have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the tradition and a greater appreciation for the beauty and complexity of this amazing art form.
Indian Classical Dance Workshop
Saturday, March 8, 2008; 11 am

ArtsPark at Young Circle, Dance Studio
Taught by members of the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, this workshop will instruct participants in isolated body training from the Natyashastra, an ancient text that serves as the basis for all Indian classical dance. Experience in Indian dance is not necessary; however, participants should have some knowledge of dance and movement. All participants should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. No shoes will be worn.
