Michael Namkung: Levitation and Gravitas
November 14, 2015 – January 24, 2016
Opening reception: Fri., Nov. 13, 2015
6 – 9 pm
Levitation and Gravitas is an exploration of flying, floating and falling, and the interconnectedness of these human desires. In this site-specific work, Namkung creates a 3-dimensional sound piece that channels an apparition of his body floating down the stairs, and utilizes video to sustain his body in flight.
Michael Namkung is a multidisciplinary artist whose work draws from the language of sports training and athletic performance to explore the sensory experiences of drawing under physical strain. Namkung holds an MFA from San Francisco State University. He has exhibited at the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum in Brazil, the Frost Art Museum and Locust Projects in Miami, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He currently teaches drawing at Florida International University.
