Luis Alonzo Barkigia: Mundos Perfeitos
Nov. 23, 2010 – Jan. 9, 2011
Preview Reception: Wed., Nov. 17, 6-9 pm
Mundos Perfeitos offers a skewed geometric playground that speaks to the notion of Utopia. New York-based Barkigia presents an organic environment in which spheres, cubes, and planes have been transfigured and molded into aberrations of themselves. Far from grotesque, these pieces evoke a playful quality in their distorted shapes as they join together to create a symbiotic environment. Both the objects and the Portuguese title of the exhibition pay homage to Brazilian Neo-Concretismo, but more importantly to the never-ending dialogue that ensues between theory and practice, as well as the confrontation between opposing cultures. Mundos Perfeitos is a continuation of Barkigia’s interest in the legacy of objects and the histories surrounding them.
