A former principal Bejart dancer, Artistic Director Johannes Wieland’s work cuts the edge, blurs the lines, and creates a stylistic precedent. Drawing from his diverse background, the German native’s work combines abstract themes with edgy, dramatic, highly technical movement, including fast kicks, limp wrists, sudden wiggles, and long pauses. In the end, the body loses all preconceptions. The partnering is a blending of risk and aggression with the powerful usage of stillness. The sound, like the movement, is manipulated and molded to reflect a personal vision with universal overtones. The result is a mesmerizing mix of sight and sound.

“Mr. Wieland can choreographically conjure up emotions without relying on gimmicks.” – The New York Times
