Jenny Brillhart: Accumulation
March 9 – April 14, 2013
Opening Reception: Fri., March 8, 6 – 10 pm
Brillhart focuses on medium and material using architecture as a jumping off point for her paintings and sculptural collages. Common urban motifs provide Brillhart with initial inspiration and abstract forms. The visual notes taken from this foundation are shaped into their own internal structure, resulting in a dialogue between spaces and forms and their relationship to place. Techniques from still life, studio practice, photography, and paint are utilized to inform each object or painting. The resulting work reveals a process of adding and subtracting, to balance ideas of beauty, form, representation, structure, and narrative.
Brillhart is from New Hampshire and has lived in South Florida since 2003. She is represented by Dorsch Gallery in Miami and Kuckei + Kuckei in Berlin, Germany. She has also shown at the Miami Art Museum, the Naples Museum of Art, the Anhaltinischen Gemäldegalerie Museum in Dessau, Germany; Dimensions Variable, and David Castillo Gallery in Miami, and Roemerapotheke Gallery in Zurich.
The Project Room exhibition series highlights superb emerging regional talent, illustrating South Florida’s evolution into an ever-expanding center for the creation and exhibition of contemporary art.
