Brazilian-born director and choreographer Giovanni Luquini’s work blends urban themes and interpersonal struggles with rich movement. Luquini’s characters create suspenseful moments as they explore questions of self control, individual choice, and unrequited desire. These cinematically presented works are multi-media experiences that incorporate athletic choreography, spoken text, and video to represent a renegade fusion of dance and theater. The Miami Beach-based Giovanni Luquini Performance Troupe has galvanized the South Florida dance scene by creating vivid pieces of contemporary dance theater that engage and challenge audiences.
“…the most teasingly inspired and individual moments came from Miami’s Giovanni Luquini & Dancers . . . had tenderness, combativeness and quirky sensuality; a taut portrait of an indefinable relationship whose images stay in your head.” – The Miami Herald
“His solo…revealed Mr. Luquini to be an extremely lithe dancer who twisted and turned as if revolving around a spiritual axis deep inside him.” – The New York Times
