Call to Artists
All artists residing in the state of Florida are invited to submit entries of contemporary artwork for the Art and Culture Center’s 6th All-Media Juried Biennial.
Original paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, video, computer-generated images, performance, and site-specific installations will be considered.
Awards
Cash awards totaling $4,000 will be distributed as follows:
$2,000 Best in Show
$1,000 First Place
$600 Second Place
$400 Third Place
Artists’ Reception
The artists’ reception will be held 6 – 9 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013. The reception is free for members and $10 for non-members. Each exhibition artist may bring one non-member guest free of charge.
Exhibition Jurors
Hunter Braithwaite is a freelance writer based in Miami. He has covered the arts in Shanghai, Paris, New York, and Miami for various publications, including Art in America, Artforum Online, Modern Painters, and the Wall Street Journal. Currently, he is Editor in Chief of the Miami Rail.
Gean Moreno is a writer and artist based in Miami. His work has been exhibited at the North Miami MoCA, Kunsthaus Palais Thum and Taxis in Bregenz, Institute of Visual Arts in Milwaukee, Haifa Museum in Israel, Arndt & Partner in Zurich, and Invisible-Exports in New York. He has contributed texts to various catalogues and anthologies and is currently contributing editor of Art Papers. In 2008 he founded [NAME] Publications, a platform for book based artist projects for which he has received two individual Knight Foundation Arts Partnership awards.

Entry Guidelines
Entry procedures
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $45 per person to submit up to three art works (images). Entries will be accepted through an online process. Payment can be submitted through PayPal or Amazon Payments. Entry information is submitted through an online form. Images are submitted by email. Deadline for Entries
All entries must be received no later than March 8, 2013. Entries received after this date will not be considered.
Physical Requirements
Only original works of art completed after Jan. 1, 2011, are eligible. No artwork measuring more than eight feet in any one direction or weighing more than 100 pounds can be accepted without prior written permission from the curator. Artwork should be ready to install and properly identified with the provided label securely attached. Canvases with wet paint and frames in fragile condition will not be accepted. The jurors’ decisions are final. No substitutions will be accepted.
Shipping of Original Works
- Accepted artists are responsible for all shipping arrangements and expenses. Round-trip shipping expenses must be pre-paid. Those sent C.O.D. will not be accepted. Please allow two weeks for shipment.
- All packing material must be sufficient for safe return.
- Do not use glass on artwork to be shipped.
Delivery and Pick-up
Original artwork accepted for exhibition must be delivered no later than 5 pm on April 19, 2013, and picked up no later than 5 pm on May 31, 2013, following the conclusion of the exhibition. No work that has been accepted as part of the exhibition will be permitted to be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition. Artwork will not be released to any person other than the artist without written authorization from the artist to the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.
Storage Charges
Unless prior written permission is granted, artwork not picked up by 5 pm on May 31, 2013, will be subject to an initial charge of $20 plus $5 for each additional day. Any artwork not retrieved by June 28, 2013, will be considered a donation to be sold in a fund-raising auction to benefit the Center. Artists will be liable for all additional expenses including packing, transportation, insurance, and off-site storage.
Photography of Work
By entering this competition, the artist grants the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood permission to reproduce their artwork for publicity and educational purposes.
Waiver of Liability
By submitting the entry form, the artist acknowledges that they have copyright permission and model releases for all artwork submitted for consideration. The artist also gives the Art and Culture Center permission to reproduce images of artwork for publicity and educational purposes. The Art and Culture Center reserves the right to final approval of all text and titles referring to exhibited artwork. The artist also agrees to hold harmless the Art and Culture Center, its officers, employees, agents, and any other persons acting on the Center’s behalf from and against any and all liability, damages, expenses and judgments by reason of any injury or claim of injury to person or property arising directly or indirectly out of the use or occupation of the facility.
Insurance
While caution will be exercised in the handling of all accepted artwork, the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood cannot assume liability for any loss or damage caused by shipping or hand-delivery of artwork. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide adequate insurance coverage during shipment. The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood will insure artwork only while exhibited or stored on the Center’s premises.
Sales
The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood does participate in the sale of artwork, with prior written authorization of the artist. Sales of work included in the Biennial are at the discretion of the artist. In the event that artist does agree to make work available for sale during the exhibition, a donation to the Center of 20% of net selling price is suggested, but not mandatory. Artist or their representative will be notified immediately of any sales inquiries.
