Amy Wong: Hypochondriac Series
June 8 – Sept. 8, 2013
Amy Wong’s paintings and drawings are a collection of diverse cultural references. A broad range of source material is absorbed and used as personal narrative. She is interested in the power of images, and in the possibility of transcending clichés by painting the symbols that propel them.
The Hypochondriac Series reflects upon what the artist calls ‘looking up the internet doctor’ – the absurd state of having too much data but not enough wisdom. These drawings appropriate various drug and medical diagrams, reflexology charts, and make-up kits found online.
Amy Wong (b. 1981, Toronto) is a graduate of Concordia University in Montréal, and De Ateliers in Amsterdam. She is represented by Galerie Albus Lux in the Netherlands, and has shown at the Seoul Museum of Art, the Chinese European Art Center, and the Gemeentemuseum in DEN HAAG Stadhouderslaan 41 2517 HV Den Haag. Wong was recently an artist-in-residence at the Fountainhead in Miami.
